The Minimalist Audio Viewpoint on Speakers
AS OF MAY 23 2017
WE ARE NO LONGER SELLING OMEGA SPEAKERS. WE ARE CONSIDERING OTHER OPTIONS, SO STAY TUNED.
In my many years in audio I have heard almost every type of speaker ranging in price from hundreds to thousands of dollars a pair. Since getting into audio I have gravitated toward simplicity of design, so I have owned quite a few minimalist integrated amplifiers and two way monitors fronted by either a turntable or CD player. I found these minimalist systems had a more realistic presentation than a lot of larger, more powerful, and more complex systems. Yet I still was not satisfied as I kept changing gear looking for something I could not put my finger on.
A few years ago I started reading about flea powered single ended triode (SET) tube amplifiers and how good they sounded, but the problem was finding an affordable speaker that was efficient enough for this type of amplifier. Enter the affordable efficient single driver speaker. They have a directness and palpability with incredible three dimentional soundstage like few speakers I've heard. I also love their utter symplicity. A good DAC or turntable, a good amp, and a good pair of single driver speakers will, in my experience make a most musical system. If your amp is more powerful there is a much wider range of lower efficiency single driver speakers to choose from.
However, I am not so closed minded as to believe single driver speakers are all there are, as I have not heard all the speakers available in the world, but until now single driver speakers are my clear favourite and have been since I first discovered them. No speaker is perfect, but at the time of this writing, a good single driver speaker is the closest to perfection I have found.
